Diani is far more than a beach. The coral reef just offshore makes it one of Kenya's best spots for snorkelling and scuba diving — you'll find sea turtles, octopus, and vibrant reef fish in surprisingly shallow water. Kite surfing is hugely popular here thanks to the reliable coastal winds, and there are schools for beginners. For something more laid-back, take a traditional dhow cruise at sunset with fresh seafood and cold Tusker on board.

Wildlife on the shore

One of Diani's most charming surprises is its resident population of Angolan colobus monkeys. These striking black-and-white primates live in the coastal forest that runs alongside the beach and can often be spotted leaping between trees just metres from the shore. Diani is also a short drive from Shimba Hills National Reserve, where you can see elephants, leopards, and the rare sable antelope on a half-day game drive.

Best time to visit

Diani is a year-round destination. The driest and sunniest months are January to March and July to October, making these the most popular times to visit. Even during the short rains in November, showers are typically brief and the beach is still warm and enjoyable.

Getting there

From Nairobi, you can fly directly to Ukunda Airstrip in under an hour, landing just minutes from the beach.
